New Day Therapy & Coaching Services

After a preliminary consultation with families, Dr. Mulholland will define the scope of the work. This may involve providing direct support to the parent(s), the student, or both. New Day will summarize the initial impressions, establish goals and timelines for the work, and monitor progress.

Individualized educational coaching

Individual educational coaching focuses on building new skills or sharpening habits that will be necessary for optimal learning and success. Students may need support developing executive functioning skills, test and note-taking strategies, time management, or organizational skills.

Behavioral and emotional coaching

Individual behavioral and emotional coaching focuses on building new skills or sharpening habits that will be necessary for wellness, relationship-building and social success. Students may need support sharpening focus, regulating emotions, reducing school or social-related stress or anxiety or understanding how to navigate social media.

Expert advice and support for parents

Advice and support for parents is meant to help families understand their child's learning and social profile and build strong relationships based on mutual respect. Parents may need support understanding their child at different ages and stages, knowing when a behavior or habit may need to be assessed through neuro/psychoeducational testing, knowing when to set clear boundaries, and when to encourage more independent decision-making.

Personalized education plan

Personalized educational plans are part of New Day services for all clients. A plan will identify the target academic or emotional behavior, strategies for improvement, and how progress will be measured. Plans are meant to help students, families, and sometimes, teachers stay focused on the primary barriers to learning and social progress and the effective strategies that will support the child's growth.

Coordination with schools

Coordination with schools is meant to help facilitate consistent and effective care for the student. A student with a diagnosed disability may be receiving services from other professionals (e.g., occupational therapists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, reading specialists, etc.), and a point person is needed to coordinate the strategies and care of all involved with the child's academic and social progress. New Day will connect with the professionals involved and create an educational plan. If a student has an Individualized Education Plan (I.E.P.) or a 504 Plan, New Day services may include attending school meetings and facilitating effective support with schools.
